Just when we thought everything that could be said in the blues had been said, along came Stevie Ray Vaughan.

There was a power to his playing and an authenticity to his singing that couldn’t be denied. But then, what would you expect from a musician who’d spent more than a decade making a name for himself on the Texas music scene?

When Stevie emerged internationally with a breakthrough performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, he found himself being courted by David Bowie to perform on David’s next album Let’s Dance and being offered a recording contract by the legendary talent scout John Hammond.

And then with his debut record called Texas Flood, Stevie not only launched his own much acclaimed career as a solo artist, he also sparked a blues revival.

Friday, August 18th, Great Moments in Vinyl pays tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan…tracing his career from the guitar legends who inspired him…through his own personal triumphs and demons…to the tragic helicopter crash that took his life following a performance at Alpine Valley Music Theatre…to his continuing legacy as one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

For this concert, Bill Grady will be center stage playing and singing with support from drummer Jonathan Reed and bass player William Lindsey Cochran.  As always, we’ll accompany the songs with stories about the music and the musicians who created it.
