Bruce Springsteen's debut album only sold 50,000 copies at first, and his second album didn't do much better.  His career wasn’t looking very promising when he made one last grab for the golden ring with his third album, Born to Run, a bid for success that he later described as “a 24 year old kid aimin’ at The Greatest Rock ’n’ Roll Record Ever.”

What’s truly amazing is that this kid from New Jersey was able to pul it off!

Born to Run leaped into the Top 10 when it came out, and within weeks it had sold half a million copies.

It was the record that launched one of the most iconic rock artists of our time into a career that continues to this day.  Springsteen has sung exuberant anthems of freedom and soul-crushing ballads of sorrow and defeat.  And through it all he champions the underdog because it’s a life he knows from his own experience.

“So Mary, climb in.  It’s a town full of losers.  I’m pulling out of here to win.”
