Great Moments in Vinyl plays Dave Mason
It's a GMiV Online Mini-concert featuring a 50th anniversary tribute to Alone Together, the album that launched Dave Mason’s solo career. Back in the ‘60s, most British musicians were making their mark as part of a band (Traffic in Mason’s case). But Mason was one of the first to strike out on his own. And his debut album proved to be a classic, the first of five albums in his career that went gold or better.
Alone Together also happens to be one of multi-instrumentalist Packy Lundholm’s favorite albums of all time. So as the live-in-studio performances unfolds in this video mini-concert, you can watch Packy do his many things. (Ten, by my count.) And thanks to his handy video camera, you can savor every nuance in his playing and singing.
As always, William Lindsey Cochran chimes in with stories about the original music you’ll hear and the musicians who made it. To be sure, Dave Mason is a colorful character with a long and varied history in the music business. But while there are lots of stories about him that can be told, we’re sticking with the Alone Together album and the thoughts and comments of the man himself.
So sit back and enjoy. Let us remind you of one of 1970’s best albums…and remind you why it was so well-loved.
